Airline resumes scheduled flights but advises passengers of potential hold-ups
Dubai: flydubai has advised passengers to expect potential delays despite resuming its scheduled operations today, June 24, following recent regional developments.
The airline attributed the anticipated hold-ups to ongoing airspace congestion and stated it had rerouted select flights to avoid restricted areas, prioritising the safety of its passengers and crew.
A flydubai spokesperson said, “The recent developments in the region temporarily impacted our operations. Flights on June 24 have resumed as scheduled; however, some delays may still be expected due to airspace congestion.”
In addition to general delays, flydubai said that its flights to Iran, Iraq, Syria, and St. Petersburg will remain suspended until June 30. This measure reflects the airline's continuous monitoring of security and commitment to operating only within safe airspace.
A day after Iran attacked Qatar, in retaliation to US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, the Middle East's aviation sector is actively navigating the ripple effects, with airlines continuing to adjust operations and passengers facing ongoing disruptions.
Dubai Airports confirmed the full resumption of operations yesterday morning after a brief precautionary pause.
All airlines have said that travellers flying through UAE hubs like Dubai and Abu Dhabi should still anticipate potential delays and cancellations as airlines work to stabilize schedules and reroute flights. Etihad Airways said it is actively rerouting many of its flights today while Emirates’ cancellation of operations to Tehran and Iraq (Baghdad and Basra) remains in effect until June 30; however, all other scheduled flights will fly as planned.
Air India, who announced that it would cease all operations to the Middle East and to and from the East Coast of North America and Europe, said today that flights will resume in a phased manner.
Many other US and European carriers continue monitoring the situation closely, with some still maintaining flight suspensions or significantly rerouting services to Gulf destinations, while others are cautiously resuming operations.
