Abu Dhabi: UAE’s national carrier, Etihad Airways, is experiencing widespread flight disruptions across the Middle East, citing ongoing regional instability and multiple airspace closures. Several services have been delayed or cancelled, the airline confirmed.
The disruptions follow recent US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, which have escalated tensions in the region and affected commercial aviation routes.
Airlines are now avoiding airspace over Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Israel, rerouting flights over safer regions such as the Caspian Sea, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia, according to flight tracking service FlightRadar24.
As a direct result of the airspace situation, Etihad has suspended all flights between Abu Dhabi (AUH) and Tel Aviv (TLV) until July 15 (inclusive). Passengers transiting through Abu Dhabi to connect to cancelled Tel Aviv flights will not be permitted to travel from their original departure point.
The airline is assisting affected guests with alternative travel arrangements. It emphasised that this is a developing situation, and further disruptions — including sudden airspace closures or schedule adjustments — may occur with little notice.
Etihad said it continues to monitor the situation closely in coordination with relevant authorities.
“The safety of our guests and crew remains our highest priority, and we regret any inconvenience caused,” it said.
Etihad flight EY652 from Kuwait International Airport (KWI) to Abu Dhabi Zayed International Airport (AUH), scheduled for 22 June, has been cancelled due to a technical issue.
The airline has apologised for the inconvenience and is assisting impacted travellers with alternative arrangements.
If your Etihad flight is impacted by the current regional tensions, do not cancel it immediately. Instead, wait for the airline to officially cancel the booking — this may make you eligible for a full refund, free rebooking, or travel credit.
