Dubai: Air India’s budget subsidiary, Air India Express, announced Thursday it has officially welcomed its 100th aircraft to its fleet. The airline’s 100th aircraft - a Boeing 737-8 – took off from Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport and was flagged off by Aloke Singh, Managing Director of Air India Express. Bengaluru is a major destination for Air India Express, with over 445 weekly flights.

The achievement, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s journey of growth and expansion, was celebrated across airports in India, including Agartala, Amritsar, Bengaluru, Delhi, Chennai, Guwahati, Lucknow, Mangalore, and several others.

The aircraft featured the distinctive ‘Tales of India’ tail art, a branding initiative highlighting India's diverse artistic heritage. This particular aircraft showcases Chittara, a traditional mural painting from Karnataka, paying homage to the state’s rich cultural legacy.

Since joining the Tata Group in January 2022, Air India Express has nearly doubled its fleet. The airline has expanded from 26 Boeing 737 NGs and 28 Airbus A320s to an impressive 100 aircraft.

This expansion aligns with Air India Express’ ambitious plans to operate over 500 daily flights by March 2025, covering 54 destinations across India, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.

Last month, Air India Express launched a significant increase in free check-in baggage allowance on international flights to the Middle East and Singapore.

The airline said that travellers can now carry 30kg of check-in and 7kg of cabin baggage. Moreover, parents travelling with infants have a total baggage allowance of up to 47kg. Moreover, Xpress Biz (Air India Express’ equivalent of Business Class seating) travellers benefit from an increase from 30kg to 40kg.
