Aramex International Ltd (AIL) is investing more than Dh20 million in the development and expansion of its Jebel Ali Logistics Centre to serve the increasing demand in the region.
The first phase of the expansion will provide 50,000 square feet of capacity which will be increased to 83,000 square feet in the second phase.
The Jebel Ali expansion is part of the Aramex investment programme in the regional logistics market, which also includes the establishment of state-of-the-art logistics facilities and the upgrading of its existing centres in Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Kuwait and Bahrain.
A key element of the network development strategy includes the expansion of the AIL logistics centre at the New York JFK airport area.
"Aramex is expanding its logistics capacity and coverage in many markets. This is a reflection of the growth in the market and the dynamism of Aramex in taking timely moves to benefit from emerging trends," said Iyad Kamal, AIL vice president for logistics and ground operations.
Aramex employs more than 800 people in the UAE and the expanded facility at Jebel Ali will lead to the recruitment of more than 100 new logistics professionals.
In addition to the major investment in the UAE, Aramex is investing in several new logistics centres in key locations around the region, including a 17,000 square feet logistics Centre in Cairo and a new Centre in Jeddah to serve Saudi Arabia along with the existing facility in Riyadh.
The company has also established a new logistics centre in the free zone at Beirut Seaport and is doubling the size of its logistics facility at Queen Alia International Airport in Amman, complementing the existing Aramex facilities at Aqaba Free Zone and at Amman Industrial City.
