Ryder Cup spectator loses sight

Fan was hit by ball off Koepka drive

Paris: A spectator hit by a tee shot played by US golfer Brooks Koepka during the Ryder Cup has lost sight in her right eye, AFP reported.

The woman was struck when the American’s drive veered wide of the fairway on the sixth hole on Friday, the opening day of the event which Europe went on to win.

“Doctor’s told me I had lost the use of that eye,” Corine Remande said, adding she hadn’t felt any pain at the time she was hit.

A reporter had witnessed Remande being tended to by medics, with a heavily bandaged eye. Koepka had stopped to see how she was.

“It looked like it hurt,” the 28-year-old said afterwards.

He added: “It’s hard to control a golf ball, especially for 300 yards, and a lot of times the fans are close to the fairway.

“You can yell ‘fore’ but it doesn’t matter from 300 yards, you can’t hear it.”
