First called the 'Buck Moon' in The Old Farmer's Almanac, the moon rises during a time when the antlers of male deer known as bucks are in full-growth mode. The American periodical, first published in 1792, features weather forecasts, planting guides, astronomy predictions and articles. The Buck Moon is one of four supermoons expected in 2023. A supermoon is when the moon's orbit is much closer to Earth than usual - for example, this Buck Moon is 14,000 miles closer to Earth than a regular full moon.
