From the Editors: Dubai’s focus on marine transport is timely Our editors comment on major local and global events plus the day's top trending topics Published: June 08, 2022 12:01 Gulf News Editors 1 of 4 DUBAI’S MARINE TRANSPORT OPTMISATION PLAN PRIORITISES SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORTATION: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has drawn up an extensive plan to further improve and develop the marine transport network in the emirate. This seasonal plan will help optimise the deployment and usage of the various modes of marine transport in and around the city -- particularly during some of the major holidays and public occasions such as Eid, Ramadan, and the summer and winter seasons. The marine transport route is one of the best ways to explore the sights and sounds of this incredible city and given the minimal carbon footprint of the various means of marine transportation, further optimising these modes of commute will definitely go a long way in strengthening Dubai’s reputation as a city that has always stood by sustainable modes of mass transit. Stick to this dictum and chances are you and your money will remain safe. Because the scam artists are getting ever more crafty in their ways. The choice these days is to mimic the identity of some of the UAE’s well-known corporate brands and ask for seemingly ‘innocuous’ personal details. However much of warnings out there, someone or the other is always falling victim. Because these days, part with just a bit of your personal data and the cyber scammers can piece together the rest of it. And that’s when you find you have just been defrauded. So, stick with the easiest way to handle all such innocent-sounding offers – if it’s too good to be true... It was, incidentally, Kane’s 50th international goal when he struck after being brought down in the box five minutes from time. Earlier, Jonas Hofmann’s second-half strike looked like it would condemn England to a second successive loss in the tournament, but Kane made sure that would not be the case. The new Uefa tournament may have it’s share of detractors, but ensures a rich feast in store for lovers of internationals during the downtime for the clubs.[COMMENT BY: Gautam Bhattacharyya, Senior Associate Editor] Image Credit: Reuters 4 of 4 DISNEY+ LAUNCH SHAKES UP THE STREAMING MARKET IN THE UAE: Raise your hand if your first-world problems include never finding anything to watch on your collective subscriptions of Netflix, Prime Video, OSN+, Starzplay and what not. As Disney+ launches today across the UAE and 15 markets in the MENA region, it brings a much-needed boost to the stagnating streaming landscape here that often fails to keep up with launches of top-rated shows in the US and the UK. The launch of Disney+ today also coincides with the worldwide release of ‘Ms. Marvel’, bringing the first Muslim superhero to the MCU. It feels great to be on even keel for a change, with a roadmap for more such rollouts and entertainment in place. As for the other streaming partners in the region, a little bit of competition hurts no one. [COMMENT BY: Bindu Rai, Entertainment Editor] Image Credit: Shutterstock
