Hundreds of workers treated on World Food Day in Dubai

Dubai: Dar Al Ber Society treated over 500 labourers to a special meal at its premises at Rolla Street in Dubai area, to mark World Food Day which fell on Tuesday.

The society regularly distributes food to labourers at its premises, but event was a special treat with food, cakes and sweets.

Pakistani national Ghulam Abbas, 32, said: “My friends and I regularly eat food distributed by Dar Al Ber Society here, but today it was truly special. God bless Dar Al Ber Society for caring about people like us who are away from their families and who cannot afford such a feast themselves.”

Dr Hisham Al Zahrani, Deputy Director for Social Sector, Dar Al Ber Society, said: “Food is one of the main focus of Dar Al Ber Society’s humanitarian activities. On the occasion of World Food Day, we take this opportunity to share that last year, we had provided food aid to over 28,000 people. We also distributed over 45,000 food bags containing basic food items such as rice, grains, meat, oil, macaroni, sugar, etc”

Juhi Yasmeen Khan, CSR & Charity Initiatives Expert, Dar Al Ber Society, said: “We always look for opportunities to make people happy in whatever way possible for us. World Food Day is a special occasion for a charity organisation like us, so we chose to mark it with a special feast for our worker brothers.”
