Here are some fascinating undersea places to explore on your next trip:

1. Underwater Post Office, Vanuatu

Who knew you could get subaquatic mail? The Underwater Post Office is located in about 10 feet of water off Vanuatu’s Hideaway Island Resort and Marine Sanctuary. It’s fully functional, and completely unique. People can put on their snorkelling gear, swim down to the fibreglass booth and mail waterproof postcards to their loved ones!

2. Lake Huron, Canada

There are more than 6,000 shipwrecks in the Great Lakes, and many of them have never been accessed by people. Some, however, are clearly visible in shallow waters. One such shipwreck is the schooner Sweepstakes, in Canada’s Fathom Five National Marine Park. The boat sank just about 45m from the shore in September 1885. It’s still intact, and is a popular attraction for divers and tourists.

3. Silfra Fissure, Iceland

If you’re looking for an epic adventure, visit Iceland’s Silfra Fissure – it’s the only diving spot in the world where you can swim between two continental plates. The large gap between the Eurasian and North American plates expands by about two centimetres every year. Divers get a great view of clear waters, bright green algae, and amazing underwater topography.

4. Museo Sabacuatico de Arte (Musa), Mexico

An ethereal underwater museum, Musa lies between Cancun and Isla Mujeres and features over 400 permanent life-sized sculptures, standing sentinel on the ocean floor. The sculptures were designed to promote coral and marine life. Visitors can access the museum by boat or by snorkelling.
