Dawood Al Hajiri, director general of Dubai Municipality inaugurated the registration platform in the presence Najeeb Mohammad Al Ali, executive director of the Expo 2020 Bureau and other officials.

Mohammad Mubarak Al Mutaiwei, assistant director general of Dubai Municipality for Business Development Sector, said the Municipality will host the platform for three days to facilitate its employees and customers to register as Expo volunteers. He said more than 500 municipal employees were expected to register.

Saeed Al Shaqsi, senior manager, Expo 2020 volunteering, said the Expo team is working on a reward and recognition programme for volunteers with its partners. “We have partners like Emirates, Nissan, SAP, Emaar etc. already on board. We are expecting more partners to join.”

Apart from the rewards, all volunteers will be given free transportation and free meals and some would be given free accommodation also depending on the nature and duration of their services, said Al Shaqsi.

He said the team is also working with the Dubai Executive Council and Dubai Human Resources Department to formulate laws that allow employees to offer volunteering services for Expo without deducting their salaries.

“Government and private employees are our main targets for volunteering,” said Al Shaqsi.

More than 30,000 volunteers are expected to carry out over 30 onsite and offsite roles during the Expo. About 8,000 have registered so far.

“It is an opportunity for people of different nationalities to volunteer for their own countries also. They can volunteer at their country’s pavilion. However, the roles are not defined based on the nationalities.”

People of determination are invited to volunteer and serve their categories.

The touring platform will visit all local and federal government entities to facilitate registration and mandatory 15 minute interviews of volunteers.

Volunteers can also register through this site as well as at the recently-opened House of Volunteers in the Expo 2020 site.
