UAE and EMA OBGYN outstanding win at the FIGO General Assembly elections

FIGO is responsible for all aspects of global women's healthcare

The International Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (FIGO) is a non-profit organisation that is the global voice of women’s health. Around 137 countries subdivided geographically in to five different regions come under the purview of FIGO. FIGO oversees all aspects of women’s health and is a body at par with the World Health Organisation and is responsible for all aspects of global women’s healthcare from ethics to education and upliftment and encouragement of all women kind.

FIGO held its Triennial General Assembly Elections on Thursday October 28, 2021.

For the first time, the United Arab Emirates has secured two key positions in the General Assembly elections and shall play a vital role in helping FIGO make key decisions in women’s healthcare.

Prof. Muna Tahlak, President Emirates Medical Association OBGYN, has been elected as the Trustee from Africa and Eastern Mediterranean region and will be a part of the core trustees of FIGO.

The United Arab Emirates and Emirates Medical Association OBGYN was also elected to be the Council Member of FIGO from Africa and Eastern Mediterranean region. This post will be represented by Dr. Amala Nazareth, EMA OBGYN Representative to FIGO.

Appointment of these two key positions at FIGO will allow United Arab Emirates to become a key decision maker and contributor to global women’s healthcare for the next two years.
