According to research by Bayt.com, about 67 per cent of UAE employers plan to hire new employees in 2023. Meanwhile, the 2023 UAE Salary Guide and Hiring Insights report published by Michael Page assesses UAE’s job market to be moving on an upward trend, with the opening up of fresh, new job opportunities in the years to follow.

UAE job market outlook progressive

The country’s already robust economic activity is being further bolstered by the introduction of favorable government initiatives such as the golden visa facility and fast-track licenses, all of which are adding new business start-ups to the already growing and diversifying pool of existing businesses, in turn leading to the hike in demand for human resources overall.

UAE employers recruiting for new skills

UAE has a high-turnover, multi-skilled and mixed-nationality job market. Every year, more than 200,000 new expats move to Dubai alone in pursuit of a higher quality of life, according to relocation company, First Move International. A study by Bayt.com and YouGov indicates that 86 per cent of working professionals already in the UAE have an optimistic outlook on their careers in 2023 and beyond.

Among the industries that have listed the highest growth and number of new job openings are information technology, sales and marketing, healthcare and hospitality. Working professionals across all these sectors are realising the value of investing in specialised, vocational education to gain new and add-on skills, keep their jobs secure, and stay updated on new technology and trends.

As more and more employers demand multi-skilled, well-rounded employees possessing soft skills, there is subsequently an increase in demand for courses such as problem-solving, communication and data analysis. With the rapid pace at which legal, financial and tax-related laws are changing in the UAE, finance and accounting firms are also demanding that employees get enrolled in courses and trainings that teach them the latest laws and regulations of the UAE.

Getex 2023 reveals sharp increase in post-graduate representation

According to LinkedIn, as many as 77 per cent of existing workers are considering a job switch in 2023, with higher pay and flexibility to juggle a healthy work life balance cited as top reasons for changing jobs. This coupled with the onslaught of new technology such as AI, machine learning and robotics replacing much of the work traditionally done by humans, people now feel the need to upskill by learning new applications and tools, as a way to stay relevant, negotiate higher pay and achieve overall success in their jobs.

Anselm Godinho, Managing Director, International Conferences & Exhibitions (show organiser of Getex), comments: “We are presently witnessing a strong sentiment among young adults to pursue higher studies and learn new skills, in an effort to increase their value and employability in UAE’s dynamic job market.

"On the flip side, we are also delighted to see education institutes responding to student needs by introducing new and innovative study programs for them. We feel extremely privileged to be offering an expanded showcase of post-graduate study options at Getex that will truly equip our youth to demand better for themselves.”
