King's College Hospital Dubai elevates asthma care with innovative patient empowerment event

In a significant milestone for healthcare in the UAE, King's College Hospital London in Dubai, in collaboration with Dr. Syed Arshad Husain, Chief Organizer and Consultant Pulmonologist at the King's College Hospital, recently organized a groundbreaking event aimed at empowering patients with chronic lung conditions like Asthma. Held on October 1st at the Knowledge Village Auditorium in Dubai, this event marked the dawn of a new era in patient education and awareness for chronic respiratory diseases.

Dr. Syed Arshad Husain, the driving force behind this pioneering initiative, expressed his excitement about the program's launch. He stated, "This marks the beginning of a continuous education program for our patients, and we are thrilled to work alongside our new collaborators, including the British Medical Journal Gulf Region and NIA, to help Asthma sufferers in the Middle East."

The collaboration with the British Medical Journal Gulf Region, led by Khalid Qurieshi, promises to provide an online platform dedicated to understanding asthma and seeking the right advice for managing this chronic condition. Plans are in place to develop an Asthma hub within the BMJ (Gulf) to aid patients in the region. This partnership aims to disseminate vital information and enhance awareness of Asthma care.

NIA, an organization focused on improving indoor air quality, is another crucial contributor to this unique program. Their CEO, Mr. Kamran Khan, has pledged full support to develop and maintain indoor environments that are conducive to allergic asthma sufferers, especially those affected by dust allergies.

The event, held at the Knowledge Village Auditorium, was an insightful session where attendees delved into various aspects of Asthma care and management. Topics covered included airborne allergens, the role they play in exacerbating Asthma, and the latest advancements in Asthma treatments, particularly biologic treatments.

The event featured a great lineup of speakers, including Dr. Syed Arshad Husain and his colleagues, Dr. Olga Vitriozi and Dr. Samir Naik, all experienced Pulmonologists from King's College Hospital. Their combined expertise provided attendees with invaluable insights into managing Asthma.

Dubai Health Authority's leading expert, Prof. Bassem Mehboob from Sheikh Rashid University Hospital, detailed the significance of biologic treatments in moderate to severe Asthma. These insights shed light on the latest therapeutic options available for patients.

Dr. Samir Naik concluded the program by addressing the critical issue of smoking among Asthma sufferers. His presentation emphasized the importance of smoking cessation in Asthma management.

The event concluded with a lunch where patients had the opportunity to ask questions and interact with the expert pulmonologists, further enhancing their understanding of Asthma and its management.

Dr. Syed Arshad Husain expressed his enthusiasm for the future, stating, "It's fantastic news for our Asthma patients in the UAE and the Middle East. We now have programs that bring them on par with patients around the globe in terms of knowledge and outcomes."
