Cairo: Oman's Health Ministry Tuesday confirmed 348 new cases of the novel coronavirus, raising to 8,118 the country's overall infections, the Omani news agency ONA reported.

The newly diagnosed cases include 171 Omanis and 177 foreigners, the ministry said without giving a breakdown of foreign patients’ nationalities.

The ministry put the total deaths from COVID-19 at 37, one fatality higher than its previous update released on Sunday.

The total recoveries from the disease in Oman have increased by 134 cases to reach 20,67, the ministry said.

Oman has recently tightened precautions to stem the spread of the coronavirus during the Eid Al Fitr, banning all outdoor gatherings and celebrations. Violations are punishable by a fine of 1,500 Omani riyals.
