COVID-19: Woman to stand trial in Bahrain for violating quarantine
Defendant accused of exposing six to coronavirus at family gathering, facing BD10,000 fine
Cairo: A woman in Bahrain will stand trial for having violated rules of domestic quarantine ordered to contain the spread of the coronavirus, and exposing others to infection, a prosecution official has said.
The woman will be tried at the Minor Criminal Court in hearings beginning on September 29, prosecution chief Adnan Al Wadai added.
The woman had been earlier ordered to undergo precautionary domestic isolation, but she left her house during the quarantine period and joined a family gathering at a relative’s house, the Bahraini news agency BNA reported.
After the gathering, she felt sick and later tested positive for the new coronavirus. Six of the people with whom she had come in contact tested positive too.
The nationality of the woman was not disclosed.
If convicted, the defendant could be jailed for up to three years in prison and face a maximum of BD10,000.
