TESLA TO ENTER SINGAPORE? Tesla Inc. posted fresh job ads for roles based in Singapore, signaling Elon Musk's electric-vehicle maker is preparing to set up shop in the wealthy city-state it has so far skirted. The car manufacturer is looking for senior developers in Singapore, according to job postings on LinkedIn, which didn't disclose how many people are sought. In July, Tesla began advertising for positions such as store leader and sales advisers in the city. A Tesla representative in Beijing declined to comment. https://gulfnews.com/business Image Credit: AFP

UK PUBLIC TO WORK FROM HOME: The UK government is telling the public to work from home again if possible, as Prime Minister Boris Johnson prepares to announce new restrictions on bars and restaurants in a bid to halt a surge in coronavirus cases. "If it is possible for people to work from home, then we'd encourage them to do so," Cabinet Office minister Michael Gove said on Sky News on Tuesday. "There is going to be a shift in emphasis." The new work-from-home advice comes as the government prepares to order hospitality venues across England to close by 10 pm from Thursday, as ministers clamp down on socializing. https://gulfnews.com/world/europe Image Credit: Bloomberg

LUFTHANSA’S COST-SAVING MEASURES: Due to the severe impact of the COVID-19 crisis on air traffic, German flag carrier Lufthansa has announced further cost-saving measures. The airline would implement a "permanent capacity reduction" of 150 aircraft by the middle of this decade, reports Xinhua news agency. After six Airbus A380s, the world's largest passenger plane, were taken out of service earlier this year, Lufthansa announced the transfer of the remaining eight A380s as well as 10 A340-600s to long-term storage. They will only be reactivated "in the event of an unexpectedly rapid market recovery". https://gulfnews.com/business Image Credit: AFP

LONDON STOCKS REBOUND: London shares rebounded slightly on Tuesday from their worst sell-off in more than three months as investors awaited details of new lockdown restrictions liable to deliver another blow to Britain's struggling domestic economy. The blue-chip FTSE 100 index rose 0.6%, recovering a little of Monday's almost 3.5% loss as investors in its largely externally-focused stocks took faith from a strengthening of the dollar. https://gulfnews.com/business Image Credit: Reuters

VATICAN, CHINA PREPARE TO RENEW HISTORIC DEAL: The Vatican and China are preparing to renew a historic deal on the appointment of bishops that has slightly thawed icy relations. Pope Francis has been working hard to repair ties with the Communist country. China's roughly 12 million Catholics have for decades been split between a government-run association, whose clergy are chosen by the atheist Communist Party, and an unofficial underground church loyal to the Vatican. After years of snail-pace negotiations, the Vatican sealed a historical "provisional" agreement with Beijing on 22 September 2018, the exact content of which has never been published. The key novelty however was that both Beijing and the Vatican now have a say in appointing Catholic bishops. https://gulfnews.com/world Image Credit: AP

RACE TO SAVE 180 STRANDED WHALES IN AUSTRALIA: Up to 90 whales have died after becoming stranded in a remote bay in southern Australia, with rescuers warning Tuesday the mission to save another 180 still stuck will prove "challenging". Scientists said two large pods of long-finned pilot whales became stuck on sandbars in Macquarie Harbour, on Tasmania's rugged and sparsely populated west coast. Images from the scene showed shallow water thick with scores of the large slick-black mammals manoeuvering for space. Rescuers could be seen wading in the water to reach the whales as they attempted to refloat them in deeper passages. https://gulfnews.com/world Image Credit: AFP

LUCKIN COFFEE, ASSOCIATED FIRMS FINED $9 MILLION: Embattled Chinese chain Luckin Coffee is among a raft of 45 companies hit with a combined fine of nearly $9 million over a scandal involving false sales figures, China's market regulator said Tuesday. Luckin - Starbucks' rival in China - had boosted transactions last year through fake coupons by 2.25 billion yuan ($330 million) and inflated its revenue by some 2.12 billion yuan, according to an earlier probe by the finance ministry. The scandal led to the company being delisted from New York's Nasdaq and the removal of top executives. On Tuesday, China's State Administration for Market Regulation said investigations found that Luckin, with the help of other companies, had falsely increased its 2019 sales revenue, costs and profit margins, and imposed a combined fine of 61 million yuan. https://gulfnews.com/business Image Credit: Reuters
