Selfie tragedy: Toddler drowns on Kerala beach while mother tries to click selfie with him

Yesterday, cops in the Indian state of Kerala found the body of a missing two-year-old who had been swept off into the sea while his mother was trying to click a selfie with him. The tragic incident happened on Sunday at Kerala’s popular Alappuzha Beach.

According to the police, the boy’s mother, Anithamoli, was visiting Thrissur for a wedding along with her two children.

On Sunday evening, Anithamoli and her brother decided to take the children, from both their families, on a leisure trip to the beach.

However, following rains that day, police had closed off the main beach area as the sea had turned rough.

Not paying heed to the weather and security warnings, the family, including the children, reached another part of the beach, which was still accessible.

While Anithamoli’s brother went to park the car, she started taking selfies with the children at the beach.

Reportedly, Anithamoli was holding two-year-old Adikrishna, when a huge wave hit and caused all of them to lose their balance. The boy fell into the water. As the mother regained control, she managed to save two children. Her brother also had returned by now and helped rescue the children. However, Adikrishna’s tiny body had been swept away further by the waves.

A report for the missing child was filed at the local police station.

After three days of rescue efforts, police told local media channels that Adikrishna’s lifeless body was recovered from the sea, early morning on Tuesday.

Taking swift action, the district Child Welfare Committee (CWC) chairperson Jalaja Chandran has asked police to register a case against family members who brought the children to the beach, violating state government orders.
