India: “Jugaad” or hack in sorting fruits by street vendor captivates social media

In India, a man’s simple yet effective way of sorting fruits by its size is winning praise on social media and people are going bananas over it.

Twitter user, @deep_ami tweeted: "I bet no machine learning can achieve this!"

Further on in the video, the street vendor places two iron rods side by side on cartons. The rods are placed in a way that the distance between them increases from one end to the other in a slanted position. The man places fruits on the rods which roll down and falls into the basket according to the size kept under the rods.

In the video, you can see a man placing pomegranates on the rods and it is falling into the right basket.

Replying to the video, another twitter user, @Yatharthmishra_ posted: "Proudly an Indian originated way."

@ramana_brf tweeted: "It is called jugaad. In the West, Appropriate Technology!"

‘Jugaad’, a colloquial Hindi word, which approximately translates as ‘quick fix’ or ‘hack’ - a unique ability to find low-cost, improvised solutions or quick fixes for problems. Since the video is up on social media, it has got around 4 million views.
