Heavy Kerala rains: Rail and road traffic badly hit
Rain set to continue for next two days in the state
Heavy rains have hit many parts of the south Indian state of Kerala, disrupting rail and road transports.
Train service disrupted at Ernakulam South Railway station after flooding of tracks.
According to reports, several places in Kochi have also been flooded.
Heavy water-logging has been reported from MG Road, Edapally and low-lying parts of the district. Service roads and even parts of Edapally-Vyttila NH Bypass are water-logged, affecting commuting.
India Meteorological Department has forecasted that heavy rains are likely to continue in Kerala.
School holiday
District collectors have declared holiday for educational institutions in Pathanamthitta, Thiruvanathapuram, Ernakulam, Alappuzha and Thrissur.
The India Metrological Department had on Sunday issued an 'Orange alert' for the next two days in seven Kerala district including Ernakulam, Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Malappuram, and Palakkad.
During an Orange warning, the forecast is of heavy to very heavy rainfall and authorities are expected to "Be prepared".
Amid the bad weather, by-polls are also underway in five constituencies of the state -- Vatiyoorkavu, Aroor, Konni, Ernakulam and Manjeswaram.
The votes will be counted on October 24.
