Coronavirus: The victim was stranded in Delhi, as India’s COVID-19 lockdown was announced
An employer in the Indian state of Maharashtra, sprayed sanitiser on his employee’s genitals, because he was unhappy about his extra expenses, during an official trip, amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Though the incident happened on June 13, it is only this week, that the 30-year-old victim, filed a police complaint. Today, many shocked social media users in India, took to Twitter and Facebook to share news reports about the incident.
Apparently, the complainant used to work as a manager for a firm, which organises art exhibitions. He went to Delhi on an official trip, and was stranded there when the lockdown was suddenly announced on March 24.
Quoting the First Information Report (FIR) that was lodged on July 2, a police official said: “He had gone to Delhi for some official work in March but got stuck there due to the coronavirus-enforced lockdown, he said. So, he stayed in a lodge in Delhi, and spent the cash given to him by his office.
"After returning to Pune on May 7, the complainant's employer asked him to get quarantined in a hotel for 17 days. Since he did not have money, he mortgaged his phone and debit card before check out," the official added, according to news reports.
Reportedly, on June 13, the owner of the company and his aide demanded money spent by the complainant and bundled him into a car. The victim was allegedly abducted, taken to the firm’s office, and tortured by three men, including his employer, in Kothrud, Maharashtra.
The official said: "They took him to the firm's office where he was confined. The owner and two others thrashed him and sprayed sanitiser on his private parts."
The complainant got himself admitted in a private hospital, and lodged an FIR (First Information Report) on Thursday.
According to the police, further investigation is underway and no arrests have been made so far.
