Patna: A pregnant woman in her early 20’s gave birth to a baby boy while appearing at her Grade 10 examination at the state-run Bihar School Examination Board in Bihar. The baby has been named Imtihaan which is the Hindi word for examination by the family.

Shanti Devi had reached the Mahant Darshan Das Women college examination centre in Muzaffarpur district to give her test in the second shift on Friday when she suddenly developed labour pain in the exam hall. She was rushed to the local government hospital where she delivered a baby boy. Both mother and child are safe and healthy, officials said.

“The examinee was normal in the first one hour of the exam but suddenly she complained of pain in her abdomen after which we asked her to lie down in a separate room. We soon rushed her to the nearby government hospital where she delivered the baby in the evening,” centre superintendent Dr Meera Madhumita told the media on Saturday.

Wasted no time

She had solved the objective questions by the time she went into labour. “She told us she doesn’t want to miss her further examination,” Madhumita said.

Her family wasted no time in naming the baby. “We have named him as ‘Imtihaan’ since the baby was born during the course of examination. His name will always remind us about the situation in which he was born,” the woman’s husband Birju Sahni said.

Early this month, another examinee from East Champaran district reached the examination centre to give her test for Grade 12 barely hours after she had delivered a baby.
