WGS 2024: UAE and Turkish Presidents discuss enhancing bilateral relations

Both the leaders also reviewed recent developments in the Gaza Strip.

Dubai: President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday engaged in discussions on bilateral relations and joint action to achieve the goals of the comprehensive economic partnership between the two countries.

The two leaders explored avenues to broaden cooperation prospects, particularly in the areas of development conducive to the prosperity of the two nations and peoples. His Highness Sheikh Mohamed received his Turkish counterpart who is currently on a visit to the UAE to participate in the World Government Summit 2024 in Dubai where Turkey is participating as a guest of honour.

Sheikh Mohamed emphasised the significant and qualitative advancement in UAE-Turkey relations in the past years, especially in investment, trade, energy, technology, sustainable development, among other domains.

The two countries are committed to further enhance their relations and currently working to build on this development for a better future in their bilateral ties. President Erdogan expressed his thanks and appreciation for hosting Turkey as the guest of honour at this year's edition of the summit.

The Turkish President conveyed heartfelt condolences and sympathy to His Highness the President of the UAE on the nation’s martyrs, members of the armed forces who lost their lives in a terrorist attack in Somalia while fulfilling their duty to train the Somali armed forces. Sheikh Mohamed thanked the Turkish President for his sympathy towards the UAE and its people.

The discussions also covered the World Government Summit 2024 and the topics on its agenda, underscoring its significance in furnishing global governance with innovative ideas and visions to bolster its capacity in addressing current and future challenges.

Sheikh Mohamed and the Turkish President exchanged views on various regional and international issues of mutual interest. They also discussed regional developments, with a focus on the ongoing situation in the Gaza Strip, underlining the imperative of international action to secure a ceasefire and ensure full protection for civilians in compliance with international humanitarian law.

The two leaders also emphasised the need to ensure the delivery of the sufficient and sustained humanitarian aid to people in Gaza and prevent their exposure to further devastation and displacement, while averting the expansion of conflicts in the Middle East that jeopardise regional peace and stability.

The meeting was attended by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court, other sheikhs and senior officials.
