Coronavirus is deadly and disruptive. For the last six months, it has grabbed headlines. So COVID-19 – fast-acting and still incurable – is what people have in mind now when they think of the world’s deadliest diseases. But it doesn’t even rank close to the top causes of worldwide deaths. In 2015, 56.4 million people passed away worldwide. WHO data show that 7 out of 10 whom were due to diseases that progressed slowly. Non-preventable factors include geography, access to preventive care and healthcare service quality.
