Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called for the creation of a “no-fly zone” in Syria to protect part of the country from attacks by Syria’s air force.

In his comments to reporters on Friday, Erdogan did not say where such a zone should be located. Turkey is eager to re-focus the world’s attention on removing Syrian President Bashar Al Assad’s regime from power.

Erdogan also reiterated that Turkey is considering how to support the US-led coalition fighting the Daesh militants in Syria and Iraq, including whether that would involve his military.

In addition, Erdogan said that a “secure area” should be created on the Syrian side of the Turkish border, where tens of thousands of Syrians have fled the fighting as refugees.
