Third kidnapped Indian oil worker escapes in Sudan

Khartoum: A third Indian oil worker has managed to escape from Sudanese kidnappers after almost a month held captive, his employer said on Monday.

Four Indian engineers and their Sudanese driver were abducted as they drove through the remote region of South Kordofan last month.

One of the engineers, Surjit Singh, managed to escape on June 1 and spent five days walking alone through the remote territory, said his manager Mohamed Arif Khan, head of Petro Energy Contracting Services.

Singh managed to find his own way to an oil installation about 70 km from his base in Heglig on Friday afternoon, said Khan. Singh was the third worker to get away.

Two of the engineers escaped on Saturday last week although one of them subsequently went missing, said Khan.
