Baghdad: A high-level Omani delegation arrived in Baghdad on Sunday on a politically significant mission aimed at kick-starting stagnant economic ties between the two Arab countries.

The previously unannounced visit, led by Mohammad Bin Nasser Al Khusaibi, Secretary-General of the Finance Ministry, is the first from the Omani side in nearly four years.

The delegation was received by Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Barham Saleh.

The official Oman New Agency quoted the delegation head, Al Khusaibi, as saying the visit was an expression of the Omani government's "solidarity and support" for Iraqi efforts to promote security and prosperity in the war-torn country.
