Dubai: A small village in Egypt’s Qalyubia Governorate was left in shock after a tragic incident in which a 16-year-old girl allegedly killed her younger sister after an argument over a television remote, local authorities said.

Police received a report of a girl found dead under suspicious circumstances. Emergency responders arrived to discover the younger sister had reportedly been strangled.

Her body was taken to Qalyub General Hospital for a forensic examination.

Preliminary investigations suggest that a quarrel between the sisters escalated into physical violence, culminating in the older sister allegedly choking her sibling to death — reportedly while she was sleeping.

The older sister has been taken into custody and is being held for four days pending further investigation, as ordered by the public prosecutor. A police report has been filed.

The victim’s body was released to the family for burial following examination. The girls’ parents have not yet made a public statement.

The incident has left the village in mourning, as residents grapple with the shock of the tragedy.
