Cairo : Thirty-three people were killed and 41 wounded on Friday when two buses collided in Egypt’s South Sinai, the official Middle East News Agency (Mena) reported.

The collision took place around 50km from the Red Sea resort of Sharm Al Shaikh, according to the agency.

The wounded included a Saudi woman, a Yemeni man and a Ukranian girl, Mena reported, quoting a local health official.

The exact cause of the accident was not immediately clear. However, initial reports said the two buses were driving in an opposite direction when they collided early Friday.

Egypt has one of the world’s top road accident records mainly due to reckless driving and poor roads.
