A thick orange haze blankets the sky as a dust storm sweeps through the city of Kirkuk
A powerful dust storm has swept through northern Iraq, blanketing the city of Kirkuk in a dense orange haze and reducing visibility across the region. The storm, driven by strong desert winds, disrupted daily life and raised health concerns, particularly those with respiratory conditions.
Residents shared images of the sky turning orange and streets shrouded in dust as authorities urged people to wear masks indoors. Dust storms are common in Iraq, but their frequency and intensity have increased recently, often linked to drought, desertification, and climate change.
Meteorologists warn that similar weather events may continue in the coming days as dry conditions persist across the region.
