Abu Dhabi: Authorities in Saudi Arabia have thwarted an attempt to smuggle and distribute nearly three million amphetamine pills in the Kingdom, the interior ministry said on Sunday.

The spokesperson for the General Directorate of Narcotics Control, Captain Mohammed bin Khaled Al Najidi, said the tablets were hidden inside a shipment of stone and marble. The smuggling attempt was thwarted in cooperation with Kuwait’s authorities.

“The contrabant was seized in coordination with the General Customs Authority at King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam,” Captain Al Najidi added.

Two Saudi men have been arrested and legal measures have been taken against them, Captain Al Najidi said.
