Abu Dhabi: A former member of the Saudi Shura Council, Dr. Iqbal Dandari, said she won a case against an abuser, who was jailed and fined over his tweets, Saudi media reported.
A Saudi court also ordered the confiscation of the abuser’s phone and the closing of his Twitter account, Dr. Dandari told Okaz.
She added: “Respect ... to be respected. Further legal action will be taken against the abuser as our judiciary is fair and independent,” she said.
Under Saudi law, cyber crime is punishable by a year in prison or a fine of up to SR500,000.
The law tackles cyberbullying head-on and simplifies the process for getting harmful communications off the internet quickly and effectively, while still respecting the right to free speech.
