Oman announces reduced Ramadan working hours for public and private sectors

Dubai: Oman’s Ministry of Labour has announced reduced working hours for both public and private sector employees during the upcoming month of Ramadan 1446 AH, allowing for greater flexibility while ensuring operational efficiency.

Government employees will work five continuous hours daily, from 9am to 2pm, the ministry said in a statement.

However, unit heads will have the authority to implement a flexible schedule, permitting employees to arrive and leave between 7am and 3pm, as long as they meet the required number of hours and the unit’s operational needs.

The ministry also introduced a remote work policy for roles where it is feasible. Employees may work from home with unit head approval, but at least 50 percent of staff in any unit must be physically present at the workplace to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.

Ramadan, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, reflection, and prayer, traditionally sees reduced working hours across many Gulf nations.
