Khost: At least two people were killed when suicide bombers struck two government compounds in the southeastern Afghan town of Khost on Thursday, a police officer said.

One bomber hit the department for counter-narcotics, the officer said, while the second targeted the main intelligence headquarters a few hundred metres away.

Gunfire also erupted inside the spy agency's building, an official source said.

The area has been cordoned off by authorities and at least one helicopter belonging to the foreign troops was hovering overhead, residents said.
