Revoke Nobel peace prize of Myanmar leader: Petition

The Nobel Peace prize given to Myanmar's leader Aung San Suu Kyi should be withdrawn due to her inaction over the persecution of the Rohingya. 

An online petition has been launched asking the Norwegian Nobel committee to strip Myanmar's leader of her Nobel prize.  

The petition, entitled "Take back Aung San Suu Kyi's Nobel Peace Prize", calls on the chairperson of the awards body to "confiscate" or "take back" the award given to Suu Kyi, Myanmar's de facto leader.

She has been criticised for her silence over the plight of the ethnic Rohingya under her regime.

The online petition has gathered more than 370,00 supporters so far on Thursday, September 7.

Council report

The latest report from the European Rohingya Council claimed that so far, 3,000 people, including women and children, have been killed within three days between August 25 and August 27.

Their homes have been gutted to the ground, and hundreds of thousands of displaced residents have already fled to escape violence.

“Until this second [Suu Kyi] has done virtually nothing to stop this crime against humanity in her country. As a result, there are many of the Rohingyas [who have] fled their homes and are stranded in the Myanmar’s border with Bangladesh,” the petition, addressed to Norwegian Nobel Committee 2016 reads.

“Suu Kyi as a Nobel Peace Prize laureate appears to be deaf.”

The Myanmar leader, is a diplomat and author, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991.
