Magnitude 5.1 quake hits eastern Philippines

Manila: A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck an island in eastern Luzon, Philippines, on Tuesday night, according to local seismologists. It was the second tremor recorded within a span of 90 minutes.

Philvolcs, the service institute of the Department of Science and Tech (DOST), reported that the tremor hit at 9.46pm local time (5.46pm in the UAE, GMT + 8) at a depth of 1 km east of Tinaga Island, which forms part of Vinzons town, Camarines Norte.

The earthquake was felt more strongly in Daet, capital of Camarines Norte province, about 340km south-east of Manila.

It was the second tremor to hit in the area during the day, when a Magnitude 2.5 tremor was detected at a depth of 27km also east of Tinaga Island also at 8.11pm on Tuesday evening.

The Tinaga Island quakes followed a Magnitude 2.2 earthquake at 9.19 pm local time also on Tuesday east of Davao Occidental province.
