Patna: Nearly one million people have been evacuated in India's Bihar state after a river burst its banks and swamped hundreds of villages, an official said on Monday.
Bihar's disaster management chief said that at least 971,000 people have been evacuated from flooded districts.
However, at least 50,000 were still stranded in flood-hit Madhepura and Sapaul districts.
The government has set up temporary shelters in schools, temples and student residences for those displaced by flood.
