A toddler drowned in a tub of water at her house while her parents were watching the operations to try and rescue the toddler Sujith Wilson on television, police said on Tuesday, October 29.

Revathi Sanjana was playing in the tub as her parents were watching television in Threspuram, a locality in Thoothukkudi city in Tamil Nadu State, India.

They were reportedly watching the attempts of rescuers to try and rescue Wilson, who had fallen into a 30-centimetre (one-foot) diameter pipe and later died.

According to police, Sanjana’s parents suddenly realised she was not around and went looking for her, only to find her motionless in the bucket. They rushed the child to the hospital, where she was declared brought dead, police were quoted as saying according to an Indian Express report.

There are conflicting reports about Sanjana’s exact age, some stating it as three, others saying that she was two years old.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, a police officer stationed in Thoothukkudi city was quoted as saying: “Revathi Sanjana went to the bathroom to fetch water for playing with. However, she fell into the three-foot-high plastic tub from which she was trying to take water. All that while, her father Lingeswaran and mother Nisha was watching Sujith’s rescue operation.

No reports about any arrests made have been released so far.

Sujith Wilson tragedy

On Tuesday, rescuers pulled out the decomposed and mangled body of Wilson from a well after an attempt to save the child that went on for days.

Rescuers said the toddler was unconscious but breathing until Sunday morning, but they had been unable to check his condition since then as he had slipped further down.

Wilson was the second toddler in four months to grab nationwide attention after falling into the 30-centimetre (one-foot) diameter pipe while playing near his home in Tiruchirappalli district of Tamil Nadu state on Friday.
