Mumbai: After taking a lot of flak for its apparent failure to stop last year's terror attacks, the Mumbai Police is now all set to demonstrate its determination to tackle terrorism.

A grand flag march by the police is important, says Chief Minister Ashok Chavan.

He said: "Such a parade of different security agencies in the state has to be visibly seen by people to instill confidence in them."

The parade, to be held from Nariman Point to Girgaum Chowpatty, will be on the lines of the Republic Parade in New Delhi and will be dedicated to the civilians and the uniformed men who lost their lives in the attacks.

The day however will be marked in solemn events across the city with Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram unveiling the martyrs' memorial on Marine Drive, to honour the 18 policemen who were killed by terrorists on 26/11.

While the Taj Hotel will hold a prayer meeting of its staff members, the Central Railway will also hold a low key function at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus where 56 people, including policemen, were gunned down.
