Body believed to be missing 8-year-old California girl found

Santa Cruz, California: Police say a body believed to be a missing 8-year-old girl has been found inside a trash bin at a complex in Santa Cruz and police have detained a 15-year-old neighbor in the case.

Santa Cruz Police Chief Kevin Vogel says the body was found Monday night likely belongs to Madyson Middleton.

Vogel says a 15-year-old boy who lives in the complex has been detained in the case and is being questioned.

Madyson Middleton vanished Sunday afternoon from an artist community and housing center in a Northern California beach town where she lives with her mother.
