Tsvangirai reiterates commitment to power-sharing deal

Johannesburg: Zimbabwe opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai said on Thursday his party is commited to a power-sharing government in the country.

Speaking to a news conference in Johannesburg, the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) leader said
detained opposition activists had to be freed for the power-sharing deal to be implemented.

He called on President Robert Mugabe to meet with him to resolve outstanding issues.

Tsvangirai said he hoped for results, despite the Mugabe regime's attempts to violate a power-sharing deal that has been stalled since September.

The opposition also says its supporters have been beaten and detained.

Tsvangirai says he regards Mugabe "as part of the problem, but also part of the solution."

Tsvangirai would not say exactly when his meeting with Mugabe was scheduled, but says he is returning to Zimbabwe on Saturday.
