Useful guide to India-UAE laws released

Abu Dhabi: Indian expatriates in the UAE have got an easy reference book on the UAE and Indian laws.

The book titled 'Cadeau..A Guide to NRIs in UAE', written by K.V. Prakash, a legal consultant in Abu Dhabi, was released at a function at the Indian Social and Cultural Centre in the capital on Thursday evening.

Dr.D.Babu Paul, Former Additional Chief Secretary of Government of Kerala, released the first copy of the book and Harwant Singh, a labourer in Abu Dhabi, launched the second copy.

The author said he titled the book "Cadeau", a French word meaning 'gift' because the work is a token of love, to mark his two decades of stay in the UAE. Justice K.G.Balakrishnan, Chief Justice of Supreme Court of India has written the foreword to the book.

The book is divided into three parts. The first part deals with the laws of India while the second is on the laws, regulations and procedures dealt by Indian Missions abroad. The last part deals with certain important laws of the UAE.

Prakash told Gulf News the first edition of the 'free book' has 5,000 copies which will be distributed through the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and community organisations in the UAE.

Visa for foreigners to visit India

There is no provision of 'Visa on Arrival' in India and no fee charged for immigration facilities at the airports. The consular passport and visa division of the Ministry of External Affairs is granting visas through Indian Missions abroad.

Types of Visas

Tourist Visa (for 6 months), Conferences Visa (for the duration of the conference), Business Visa ( for one or more years), Student Visa (for duration of study or five years), Transit Visa (maximum 15 days).

Documents required (may vary from country to country-where from you apply):

- Original passport valid for at least 6 months
- Visa fee
- Two passport size photographs
-Supporting documents , where necessary.
-Duly completed application form.

Permanent Account Number (PAN)

For all Indian citizens who are liable to pay tax under the Income Tax Act , 1961, or are required to enter any financial transactions in India, it is mandatory to have a PAN. It is mandatory to submit the PAN in all financial transactions, like the purchase and sale of property in India, payments for purchase of vehicles, foreign visits, securing a telephone connection or making a term deposits worth over Rs. 50,000. Demat account

You need to open a Demat account , if you want to buy or sell stocks. It facilitates buying and selling shares , precluding cumbersome paperwork and delays. Depository participants (DPs) offer Demat account services, which would include banks. Verification of Genuineness of University or school certificates

Documents Required:

1. Application in the prescribed form

2. Two photocopies of each document

3. Verification fee payable to University/ Board/ Institute.

4. A fee for Dh 50 per certificate by the embassy.

Attestation of Diploma Certificates

Undergraduate/ diploma certificates should be attested by:

-Notary public
- State Home department concerned
-UAE embassy/ consulate

Degree/ Post Graduate Certificates should be attested by :

- Education Department of Indian Ministry of Human Resource Development.
