An Indian expat engineer in Abu Dhabi is celebrating a lucky breakthrough after winning Dh130,000 in Big Ticket’s Big Win contest, after six years of trying his luck entirely on his own.

Thiyagarajan Periyaswamy, a 49-year-old senior piping engineer from Tamil Nadu, has lived in Abu Dhabi for a decade. He first came across Big Ticket shortly after moving to the UAE and began purchasing tickets regularly in 2019.

While many team up with friends, Periyaswamy always chose to go solo, trusting that his moment would eventually arrive. That moment finally came in style.

“The win caught me off guard,” he said with a laugh.

“I honestly didn’t expect it. So, it was a huge surprise. I’ve been purchasing for the past six years, and this time I won.”

Fulfil father’s wish

The unexpected windfall couldn’t have come at a better time. Periyaswamy recently relocated his family back to India and now hopes to fulfil his father’s long-held wish before treating himself to a new car.

“After fulfilling my father’s wish, I’ll spend the balance on the new car,” he said.

His Dh130,000 win in the ‘Higher or Lower’ game has already sparked a buzz among colleagues, many of whom have now jumped in to try their own luck in the upcoming draws.

Grateful and energised, Periyaswamy said he’s not stopping anytime soon.

“I’m very thankful to the Big Ticket team for this opportunity,” he said.

“I’ll definitely keep participating, your lucky day will come when you least expect it.”
