Ras Al Khaimah: A 58-year-old male Indian expatriate died on Thursday when a speeding vehicle ran him over and fled the scene of the accident in Al Kharran.
The victim, identified as R.K, died on the spot.
A senior police officer said a massive search is under way to find the motorist. The officer said the victim was walking on the pavement when a driver lost control of his vehicle and hit him.
He stressed that a hit-and-run case is extremely serious and that the police have been questioning all possible eye witnesses in the case.
Seventy-one people have lost their lives in road accidents in Ras Al Khaimah since the beginning of the year.
In another incident, an Indian security guard at a car rental agency was found dead yesterday on the company premises.
The search for a possible killer has begun but so far there have been no leads in the case.
Sources said the guard had been missing for the past few days and was last seen on Eid day.
The sources said once the Eid holidays for the private sector ended, people went back to work yesterday and found the victim's body on the floor of the premises.
The guard was apparently stabbed four times in the neck and chest. The murderer had also apparently mutilated the body in several places. The murderer had not stolen anything and nothing was missing, sources said.
Drowning
In another incident during the Eid holidays, a Chinese expatriate drowned late on Wednesday off the emirate's coast. A senior police officer said the 37-year-old, identified as L.R., drowned in the high waves in the waters behind Imam Mohammad Bin Saud University.
A team of divers recovered the body one hour after the drowning.
The officer said that the National Forecast and Earthquakes Centre had earlier issued a warning to people about the high waves and to keep away from the waters.
Due to the rough seas, fishermen have been avoiding venturing out to sea and fish is again in short supply in the emirate's markets.
