Dubai: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, visited the construction site marking the launch of operations for the Dubai Metro Blue Line, tunneling work underscoring the emirate’s continued investment in future-ready infrastructure.

Taking to his X account, Sheikh Mohammed highlighted that the Blue Line will span 30 kilometres, with half of the route running underground, and will feature 14 “iconic” stations. The line is expected to serve around one million people and reduce traffic congestion in Dubai by up to 20 per cent upon completion.

The project is being delivered by a workforce of around 10,000 employees and engineers, working to meet a scheduled launch date of September 9, 2029. The Blue Line carries a budget of Dh20 billion, forming part of a broader transport expansion strategy that also includes an additional Dh34 billion investment for the upcoming Dubai Metro Gold Line.

Major projects

Sheikh Mohammed said the metro expansion is one of several major projects aimed at reshaping Dubai’s future. He pointed to ongoing developments including the emirate’s new global airport, next-generation transport networks, the transformation of the Dubai International Financial Centre, and advancements in digital infrastructure and government services powered by autonomous and artificial intelligence technologies.

“Our major projects to reshape the new Dubai are ongoing,” Sheikh Mohammed said, reaffirming the emirate’s long-term vision.

He added that Dubai continues to position itself at the forefront of global innovation and urban development. “We are the world’s most future-ready city. Whoever bets on Dubai, bets on the future,” he said.
