Ras Al Khaimah: Traffic violators should settle their traffic fines in person and in cash at the premises of the Traffic and Licensing Department, as the best and most secure way.

A senior officer at the Traffic and Licensing Department said the department has not developed any electronic system to pay traffic fines or an active website to pay online.

For the time being, the payments can be made only in person and in cash.

The officer said the department is considering a new electronic system and an active website where motorists can settle their traffic fines online or by machines in various locations in the emirate.

He added that this project will take some time to be implemented in Ras Al Khaimah.

The officer said traffic fines issued in Ras Al Khaimah can also be settled in other emirates.

The violators should refer to the relevant departments and consult them about paying the RAK traffic fines.

But in case of any doubt, the motorists should refer to the RAK Traffic and Licensing Department to pay the fines as the best and most secure way in which they are provided with a receipt or a clearance from the cashiers.

On many occasions, the public has complained about the computer system in the Traffic and Licensing Department, which breaks down frequently, forcing people to visit the department more than once to settle their fines.

The officer said the best way to pay a fine in RAK is to call the department prior to the visit to settle traffic fines on 072356666 to ensure that the system is up and working properly and then come in person.

The officer said that the UAE Federal Traffic Law is strictly implemented in the emirate and that the Traffic and Licensing Department is connected to the computer system of the Ministry of Interior.

He said added that the Traffic violations and black points registered in Ras Al Khaimah are the same as those in other emirates

Top officers at the RAK Traffic and Licensing Department offer a 25 per cent discount to violators on several fines.

Once one of these top officers signs the violation list, the motorist can go to the computer section to adjust the value of the fine and then pay it.

The officer said this is a huge benefit to those who have to settle huge amounts in traffic fines.

This is different from the previous practice that was adopted when each emirate handled its traffic violations separately, where some violations were deleted altogether.

The officer said the local government here has recently set up an independent prosecutor and a traffic court to handle traffic cases.
