Video: Sindhi Cultural Day celebrated with elegance and unity in Dubai

Dubai: The Sindhi community in Dubai gathered in a vibrant and heartwarming celebrations of their cultural heritage as the Sindh Friends Forum hosted its much-anticipated Sindhi Cultural Day in Dubai.

The event drew hundreds of Pakistani and Indian Sindhi families living in the UAE, all united in their love for their roots. Held annually on the first Sunday of December, this event is a testament to the community’s enduring bond and commitment to preserving the rich traditions of Sindh.

Speaking on the occasion, Bashir Aresar, convener of the Sindh Friends Forum in UAE, underlined the importance of events like these in fostering a sense of community and pride.

A night of music, dance and laughter

The evening was an enchanting journey into Sindhi culture, beginning with a soulful rendition of a traditional Sindhi song that set the tone for the festivities. Talented Sindhi performers from Pakistan and India including iconic artists like Ustad Rajab Faqir, Zaman Ali, Munir Mehr, and the promising Lata Lalwani performed at the event.

Their captivating performances showcased the beauty and depth of Sindhi music, earning a great response from the audience.

Adding humour to the celebration, famous comedians Ali Gul Mallah and Gamo delighted the crowd with their witty skits, providing a perfect balance to the cultural richness of the evening.

Honouring cultural champions

The event also recognised the efforts of those who have significantly contributed to the Sindhi culture. Ayaz Latif Palijo, a famous Sindhi intellectual and social leader, was the guest of honour. In recognition of his remarkable contributions, Palijo was presented with a commemorative plaque.

In his keynote address, he stressed the importance of preserving the Sindhi identity and emphasised the need for unity among Sindhi communities globally.

A tribute to the UAE

In a display of gratitude and solidarity with their host country, the attendees also marked the UAE’s 53rd Eid Al Etihad (National Day) with a ceremonial cake-cutting.

As the evening drew to a close, the dance floor came alive with the rhythmic beats of traditional Sindhi music, as families celebrated their cultural pride through joyous dance. The celebration of ‘Sindhi Ajrak and Topi Day’ in Dubai was more than just an event — it was a powerful reminder of the beauty, resilience, and unity of the Sindhi community, leaving everyone with a renewed sense of cultural pride and shared heritage.
