Nato chief calls for united fight against terrorism
Abu Dhabi: Secretary General of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (Nato) arrived in the UAE on Thursday to make an appeal to fight terrorism and to establish stronger ties with UAE and the region.
"I make an appeal to you to fight terrorism together," said Jaap Scheffer in his address on Thursday at the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research in Abu Dhabi.
The alliance of 26 countries is reaching out to the Middle East, specifically to the UAE. "The old Nato defended the west during the Cold War. Over the last few years, Nato has adapted to the new change. Iran and North Korea's nuclear ambitions have taken centerstage. Today, there is an obvious mutual interest between us and the UAE. We both need each other," Scheffer said.
