Emirates Hospitals Group, in collaboration with the world-renowned Prof. Dr Samih Tarabichi, has officially launched the Tarabichi Center for Joint Care at Emirates Hospital Jumeirah — home to the world’s first pain-free joint surgery and rapid recovery center.

This ground-breaking facility sets a new global benchmark in orthopaedic medicine by integrating advanced robotic surgery, computer-guided precision, and 3D printing to deliver safer, more accurate, and pain-free joint replacement procedures.

Prof. Dr Samih Tarabichi, widely recognised as a pioneer in joint replacement surgery with more than 35 years of experience, over 30,000 successful procedures across the USA and UAE, and seven global patents registered in the USA and Europe, leads the centre’s clinical excellence and innovation agenda.

Breakthrough innovation: Nerve-cooling technique

At the heart of this milestone is a first-of-its-kind nerve-cooling technique, developed and applied clinically at the Tarabichi Center. Announced by Dr Mohamed Elfekky, Orthopaedic Consultant and Director of the Center, the innovation involves cooling peripheral nerves to -40°C with a specialised Cryoprobe. This process interrupts pain signals temporarily without damaging the nerve, which gradually resumes full function over weeks to months.

The approach significantly reduces the severe post-operative pain often associated with joint replacement surgeries, especially during physical rehabilitation. For the first time, patients can undergo joint replacement with a truly pain-free recovery journey.

Our goal has always been to make joint replacement surgery not only effective but truly patient-centred. With this innovation, we are taking a major step towards making pain-free surgery a global reality.
