Dubai: The UAE romped home with two awards given to outstanding individuals and organisations at the 2015 Arab Health Innovation and Achievement Awards on Tuesday.

Of the seven awards presented at the event, the UAE bagged the Excellence in Surgery Services and Cleveland Clinic Young Clinician award. The first one went to Burjeel Hospital for Advanced Surgery, Dubai and the second honour was given to Dina Abdelmannan.

The judging panel comprising acclaimed professionals from a broad range of related sectors and disciplines included Dr Ashraf Esmail, Joint Commission International Middle East; Dr Fadi Al Jardali, Accreditation Canada International; Jan Schmitz-Huebsch, Munich Health Daman Holding; Dr Jeffrey Lerner, ECRI Institute; and Dr Matthew Walsh, Cleveland Clinic.

“We are privileged to be part of this event and it is a proud moment for us to be chosen and recognised as one of the key establishments offering highest standards of orthopaedic and joint replacement surgeries in the UAE and GCC region,” said Dr Shajir Gaffar, CEO, Burjeel Hospital, for Advanced Surgery, Dubai, UAE after their win last night.

Dima Abdelmannan, who won the Cleveland Clinic Young Clinician award, said: “I feel delighted and thrilled; it is such a privilege to win a prestigious award from a great institution, it gives me more courage to keep doing what I am doing. The name of the award also solidifies my ties to the city of Cleveland where I did my speciality training and where I worked before returning to Dubai.”

The event draws to a close on January 29.
