Fujairah: Organisers of the 12th Asiania Parachute Championships and 1st Fujairah International Open 2008, which will get under way on Friday, have promised to put on an impressive show for Fujairah.

Preparations for the Dh10-million event are in final stages as organizers hope to attract an audience "worthy of the spectacle and magnitude" of the competition.

Dr Khalid Al Mazroui, chairman of the organizing committee, says the event is the largest of its kind in the Middle East and promised a "good show" and world-class competition performances.

Both championships are being organized by Fujairah International Airport, in association with the Emirates Aviation Association and will last until November 7.

The event will get under way at 4pm on Fujairah Corniche - near the Marina Club - and will feature 400 competitors from 35 countries, organisers say.

Teams and individuals will be assessed on accuracy and sequential and rotations performances as they take to the air, 10,000 feet above the ground.

A team representing the UAE will feature in the competitions, said Mohammad Yousuf, chairman of the executive committee.

Officials also promised spectacular opening and closing ceremonies with exhibition jumps, fireworks and laser shows.

Organizers also say there will be a performance by the internationally renowned Red Bull team.
